High Power Charging for Wales
Swansea welcomed Wales’ first high-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging hub last week.
Moto partnered with Gridserve to install its new range of improved Electric Highway charging infrastructure throughout the UK, starting in Wales.
This rollout will be the start of improvements made across Gridserve’s Electric Highway network.
The first charging hub within the improved Electric Highway network opened in Swansea. The hub features 6 new 350kW high-power EV charge points. Each charger has the ability to deliver 100 miles of range in less than 10 minutes. The partners have also built this site with the ability to add 6 further hubs in the future if the areas see a need for more infrastructure. 100% net carbon zero energy power these hubs. This energy comes from Gridserve solar farms.

Toddington Harper, Gridserve CEO, said:
“Our mission is to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles in the shortest possible timeframes to help prevent the worst impacts of climate change. We’re really excited to be demonstrating that all parts of the UK should be able to embrace the EV revolution. ”
The new hub location is at the Moto services off junction 47 of the M4. This strategically chosen location is ideal for EV drivers travelling around Swansea and through to southwest Wales.
Future plans for Wales
Gridserve says it is looking at further sites in Wales for future development of Electric Hubs and Electric Forecourts. They say this growing infrastructure will help as more people convert to EVs.
This is all part of the Welsh Government’s plan to increase infrastructure throughout the country. The Welsh Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy will see 4,000 rapid chargers across the country within the next 10 years. To date, they have already installed 3% of this target.
How can we help?
Our Shell EV card offers fleets access to a nationwide network of over 7500 charging hubs. This includes 950 rapid chargers, capable of charging vehicles in as little as 30 minutes depending on the vehicle model. All the shell stations on the Shell EV card offer welcoming facilities, so your drivers can recharge their own batteries at the same time.
